"The summit of the Liturgical Year is the Easter Triduum—from the evening of Holy Thursday to the evening of Easter Sunday. Though chronologically three days, they are liturgically one day unfolding for us the unity of Christ's Paschal Mystery.
The single celebration of the Triduum marks the end of the Lenten season, and leads to the Mass of the Resurrection of the Lord at the Easter Vigil.
The liturgical services that take place during the Triduum are:
Mass of the Lord's Supper
Good Friday of the Lord's Passion
Mass of the Resurrection of the Lord

In the Municipality of Póvoa de Varzim, you can visit the parishes of our city (Parish of Nossa Senhora da Conceição – Matriz, Lapa and São José de Ribamar and Our Lady of Lapa). They have been celebrating Holy Week and promote several religious celebrations during Holy Week, between March 24th and 31st that Camino Pilgrims can participate in using our online resources.
Last week, we celebrated the “Domingo de Ramos, 24 de março” and at 9h30, there was an outdoors meeting “uma Bênção de Ramos” that occurred in the “Capela” inside the “Fortaleza N.ª Sr.ª da Conceição” and was followed by a procession on the Rua 31 de Janeiro to Igreja da Lapa.
At 10h00, there was a the Igreja Matriz “Procissão de Ramos” that began at “Igreja da Misericórdia” and with another “Bênção de Ramos”. Then, at the “Basílica do Sagrado Coração de Jesus” there was a Solemn Eucharist. Finally, at Fr. Ze’s parish, “Igreja de São Tiago”, there was another “Bênção de Ramos” at 11h15, followed by a procession via Rua da Junqueira until the mass for Children began in the Igreja de São José de Ribamar. Fr. Nuno led both processions at Lapa and S. José. Next week, the Rosary continues with Children’s Rosary leading the Rosary for Divine Mercy Sunday. On the 25th of March at 21h30, a Igreja de S. José de Ribamar had a “Grande Concerto de Páscoa,” under the direction of Rui Silva. Yesterday evening, at 21h30, the ususal “Via Sacra de Rua” that is organized by pelo Grupo Esperança Jovem da Lapa (GEJ) was planned, and then indoors, there was on 27 of March at 21h30 after the evening mass at Igreja Matriz with a “Concerto Coral de Páscoa” under the musical direction of Tiago Carriço.

We invite you to pray the Rosary and also to begin the Chaplet to Divine Mercy novena which begins at midnight tonight or tomorrow and ends on April 7th.
Na Sexta-feira Santa | Good Friday on the Camino to Santiago“Na Sexta-feira Santa, promove-se a Celebração da Paixão do Senhor, com a Liturgia da Palavra e Adoração da Santa Cruz, nas três paróquias, nos seguintes horários:
às 15h00 na Matriz e Lapa
às 17h00 em S. José de Ribamar.
À noite, será celebrado o Sermão do Enterro, na Igreja Matriz, seguindo-se a Procissão do Enterro do Senhor, com a participação do Coral Ensaio, Capela Marta, Grupo Coral de Santa Maria da Estela e Grupo Paroquial de São Pedro de Rates.”
In ENGLISH: You can go to Matriz and Lapa at 3 p.m. (the hour of great mercy) for Good Friday. This day is not a day of obligation, but it is a pious practice to attend and even if you are not Catholic, you can go to receive a blessing. Just kneel and cross your arms and set down your head for that blessing. (Likely best to approach the pastor) and if you are too shy to communicate gesturally, that is okay, just pray for the blessing from where you are sitting or standing if you are late. This mass is VERY long, and all the intentions will be recited. Be prepared to stand if you do not come early.
